  • Glass - Hard Water Stains

    Glass

To remove hard water stains from glass

    1.   Make-up a paste using vinegar and baking soda.

    2.   Apply the paste to the stain using a scrubbing sponge.

    3.   Work the paste into the stain in a circular motion.

    4.   Allow it to sit for 5 minutes.

    5.   Wipe off the paste with a damp towel and remove excess water with a squeegee.

    6.   Your hard water stain(s) should be removed.

    7.   If your stains have been there for a long time, you may need to clean your glass again.

    8.   Apply a cream hob cleaner to the remaining hard water stains.

    9.   Again work the cream into the stain in a circular motion with a scrubbing sponge.

    10.  Allow the hob cleaner to dry for 15 minutes.

    11.  Buff the dried hob cleaner with a towel.

Its a good idea to repeat this process once every six months to keep your glass free of hard water build-up.

  • Wash your windows on a dry, cloudy day
    1. Do not work in direct sunlight as it causes streaks (the cleaning solution dries before you can wipe it off). This is also the best time to vacuum the frames and sills
    2. Cool clear water is best. If your windows are particularly dirty it can help to add 2 to 3 tablespoons of vinegar per gallon of water.
    3. Use horizontal strokes on the inside and vertical on the outside. This way you will know which side the streaks are on.
    4. To dry your windows, a wad of crumpled newspaper works just as well as expensive paper towels
    5. Wear rubber gloves to keep your hands free of ink.
